President Bush reaffirmed Tuesday his position that the Federal
Reserve Board should operate independently of his administration and
said he would no comment on Fed actions again in the future. After a
meeting with Republican congressional leaders at the White House, Bush
was asked whether the Fed should cut rates further in Wednesday's FOMC
meeting and replied, "First, Mr. Greenspan needs to make his decisions
independent of what I think.
