Japan: Shares Turn Higher.
The Nikkei 225 Index rose 0.4% to above 65,700 on Tuesday, reversing earlier losses as select technology and artificial intelligence-related stocks rebounded from the previous session’s decline. Investors also braced for chip giant Nvidia’s earnings report later this week for fresh clues on the strength of AI-related demand. Additionally, Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh’s speech at the Fed’s annual Jackson Hole symposium on Friday will be closely watched for signals on the central bank’s policy outlook. On the geopolitical front, the US stepped up sanctions on Iran and its trading partners in an effort to pressure Tehran back to the negotiating table. Notable gains among tech and AI-related stocks included Fujikura (5.3%), Furukawa Electric (7.4%), SoftBank Group (1.5%) and Ibiden Co (4.9%).
