Canada: TSX Sharply Lower on Thursday Afternoon.

The S&P TSX Composite plunged around 1.9% to below 32,650 on Thursday afternoon, retreating sharply from record territory as heavy losses in technology and materials overwhelmed strength in defensives. Shopify sank around 7.5%, Constellation Software fell over 2%, and Celestica dropped more than 4%, dragging the information technology sector sharply lower. Materials also slumped, with Barrick losing 2.5%, Agnico Eagle down 2.8%, Wheaton sliding 4.2%, and several gold names shedding over 4% amid a broad metals selloff. Energy was weaker as Canadian Natural fell 2.1% and Cenovus lost 2.5%, tracking lower crude prices. Financials offered limited relief, with Royal Bank down 1.6% and TD off 1.1%, although Sun Life surged 5.9% after earnings while Manulife slid 4.5% on softer profit.
