4 September 2026, 16:40  United Kingdom: Stocks Retreat.

London’s FTSE 100 moved into negative territory on Friday afternoon, down 0.3% to below 10,800, as traders digested the latest US jobs report that strengthened bets on tighter monetary policy. In the UK, gilt yields remain elevated, with long-dated yields recently reaching multi-decade highs. Bank of England Chief Economist Huw Pill said on Thursday that higher rates now could limit the risk of more aggressive tightening later to tackle inflation fuelled by the Iran war. Mining stocks were among the weakest performers, with Anglo American, Rio Tinto, Glencore and Antofagasta posting losses up to 1.8%.
