4 September 2026, 13:17  Ireland: Current Account Surplus Rises in Q2.

Ireland recorded a €19.7 billion current account surplus in Q2 2026, higher than a €14 billion surplus in the previous period, due to decreases in the merchandise balance being offset by increased services imports. Merchandise exports were at €105,590 million, an increase of €16,602 million compared with the second quarter of 2025. Merchandise imports were €47,526 million, an increase of €7,132 million. Service exports rose by €9,670 million to €136,858 million, mainly due to increased computer services exports. Service imports at €133,083 million were up €18,446 million, mainly due to higher royalty imports. Meanwhile, investment income earned abroad went up by €2,219 million to €80,143 million while investment income payable to foreign investors at €121,003 million decreased by €2,940 million. The overall income balance for the quarter at €-42,150 million increased by €5,022 million compared with the same period in 2025.
