4 September 2026, 10:41 Eurozone: European Stocks Up for 2nd Session.
European stocks edged higher on Friday, with the STOXX 50 and STOXX 600 both gaining 0.1%, extending modest gains from the previous session as the global bond sell-off eased. The move came after comments from Fed Governor Christopher Waller prompted investors to scale back expectations for a rate hike by the Fed this month. Meanwhile, the ECB is widely expected to raise borrowing costs by 25 basis points next week. Technology stocks were among the top performers, with ASML Holding rising 1% and Infineon gaining 1.3%. Automakers also traded higher, led by Volkswagen, which surged 5.3% after reaching a major turnaround agreement that helped avert an escalation with unions and shareholder Lower Saxony. Despite Friday’s gains, European stocks remained lower for the week, with the STOXX 50 down 1.6% and the STOXX 600 off 0.9%.
