4 September 2026, 09:44  Hungary: Retail Sales Hit 4-Month High.

Retail sales in Hungary rose 4.9% year-on-year in July 2026, picking up from a seven-month low of 3% in the previous month. It marked the strongest annual growth since March, driven by faster increases in sales of food, beverages and tobacco (2.2% vs 1.8% in June) and non-food products (6.5% vs 5.1%). Within non-food items, sales accelerated at pharmaceutical, medical product and perfume stores (9.2%), book, computer and other industrial goods (5.9%), textile, clothing and footwear (5.4%), furniture and technical goods (5.2%), and industrial goods-type mixed (5.1%). Retail activity was also supported by a sharp rebound in fuel sales (8.1% vs -0.3%). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail activity rose 1%, recovering from a 0.4% decline in June.
