30 September 2026, 15:43 US: Consumer Spending Rises More Than Expected.
US personal consumption expenditures increased by $190.8 billion, or 0.9%, in August 2026, exceeding expectations for a 0.8% rise and accelerating from a 0.1% gain in July. Spending on goods increased $114.1 billion, while spending on services rose $76.7 billion. Meanwhile, personal income increased $66.6 billion, or 0.2%, driven by higher compensation and government social benefits, while disposable personal income rose $68.6 billion, or 0.3%. Inflation-adjusted consumer spending increased 0.6%, while the PCE price index rose 0.3%, with core PCE inflation at 0.2%.
