Retail sales in Portugal increased 2.4% year-on-year in August 2026, following a downwardly revised 2.6% rise in July. a decline was seen in sales of food, drinks and tobacco (-0.3% vs 2.2%) while sales of non-food accelerated (4.2% vs 2.9%), led by household goods (10.1% vs 5.8%), clothing and footwear (5.9% vs 4.8%) and computers and telecommunication equipment (4% vs 0.5%). Sales of pharmaceuticals and cosmetics remained robust (7.4% vs 7.8%) while those of fuels declined (-5.6% vs -1.3%). Compared to the previous month, retail sales decreased 0.7%, extending a 0.1% fall in July.
