Retail sales in Japan increased 2.7% year-on-year in August 2026, below market expectations for a 3.3% rise and slowing from a downwardly revised 3.7% growth in the previous month. On a monthly basis, retail sales fell 1.2% in August, reversing a downwardly revised 2.1% rise in July.
