The value of outstanding loans from the Brazilian financial sector rose by 0.5% from the previous month to R$7.4 trillion in August 2026, accelerating from a 0.3% increase in July. Loans extended to corporations edged down 0.1% to R$2.7 trillion, while household lending rose 0.8% to R$4.7 trillion. On an annual basis, total credit expanded 9.2%, slightly below the 9.3% growth recorded in July. Household lending continued to outpace corporate credit, rising 10.5% year-on-year from 10.6%, while lending to legal entities slowed to 7.1% from 7.3%. Meanwhile, credit with free resources totaled R$4.1 trillion, up 0.2% from the previous month and 6.5% from a year earlier, as a 0.8% monthly increase in household credit offset a 0.6% decline in corporate lending, which nevertheless remained 0.5% higher than a year earlier.
