The S&P Global US Flash Composite PMI jumped to 58.4 in September 2026 from 56 in August, pointing to the strongest expansion in private sector activity since July 2021, and an acceleration of growth for a fourth successive month. The gains were driven by the service sector (58.7 vs 56.5), which reported the steepest rise in output for over five years, but a welcome development in September was an accompanying acceleration of manufacturing output growth to the fastest since April 2022 (56.7 vs 53.1).
