25 September 2025, 07:08 New Zealand: Dollar Trades Near 1-Month Low.
The New Zealand dollar steadied at $0.581 on Thursday after sliding 0.8% overnight to a one-month low, as the US dollar rebounded following cautious remarks from several Federal Reserve officials that pared some rate-cut bets there. Investors now look ahead to Friday’s release of the PCE price index, which could provide more clarity on the Fed's next policy steps. Domestically, a run of weak economic data has led markets to price in deeper easing by the Reserve Bank of New Zealand. Markets are fully priced for a quarter-point cut to 2.75% at next month’s meeting, with a 30% chance of a larger half-point move. On Wednesday, Swedish central banker Anna Breman was named as the next RBNZ governor, becoming the first woman to hold the role. She will begin her five-year term on December 1. Meanwhile, the kiwi is testing a three-year low against the aussie, reflecting the diverging policy outlooks between the two Antipodean countries.
