Luxembourg Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker, who was also at the panel discussion, said revisions to the pact earlier this year were needed to bring it in line with the reality faced by member states. "In view of the information available to me, there are a number of things which could be held against the rigid interpretation of the pact," Juncker said. However, he added the euro zone will have to prove that the revised pact can be used as an instrument for budget discipline. He said he will discuss this topic with Germany's finance minister at 1700 GMT.
