29 June 2005, 10:49  Australian shares close lower ahead of June fiscal year end

Share prices closed moderately lower on concerns about the impact of high oil prices on the economy, dealers said. They said that after a positive start to the trading session following an encouraging lead from Wall Street, share prices drifted lower in relatively light trade as investors pondered the effect of the oil prices on both local and global economic growth, even though the oil price eased overnight. Dealers said trading was also affected by the approaching end to the June fiscal year as many funds managers were content to sit on the sidelines having ruled off their books for the year. The key S&P/ASX 200 index closed down 7.8 points or 0.18 pct at 4,263.0, off a high of 4,294.9 and above a low of 4,255.2. The broader All Ordinaries index fell 5.4 points to 4,216.6.
