2 May 2005, 16:32  The U.S. dollar rose against other currencies in European trading

The U.S. dollar rose Monday morning against other major currencies in European trading. Gold prices also rose. British financial institutions, including the gold and stock markets, were closed for a national holiday Monday. Elsewhere in Europe, the euro was quoted at $1.2864, down from $1.2913 late Friday. Other dollar rates compared with late Friday included: 105.32 Japanese yen, up from 104.89; 1.1965 Swiss francs, up from 1.1895, and 1.2602 Canadian dollars, up from 1.2537. The British pound was quoted at $1.9026, down from $1.9092. In Zurich, the bid for gold was $433.20, up from $432.70 on Friday. Hong Kong financial institutions were closed Monday for the May Day holiday.
