17 August 2004, 16:51  US stocks set to open up after housing data, CPI

U.S. stocks were set to open higher on Tuesday after an economic report showed U.S. consumer prices dropped in July for the first time in eight months and another report said U.S. housing starts rebounded sharply in July. S&P 500 futures for the September contract rose 6.10 points to 1083.5, or 4.5 points above fair value accounting for dividends, interest rates and time to expiration on the contract, indicating the market could open 0.4 percent higher. Dow Jones industrial index futures gained 51 points, while Nasdaq 100 futures rose 13.5 points.|||
