9 January 2004, 09:12  Tokyo's Nikkei ends at 11-wk high as dollar jumps

TOKYO, Jan 9 - Tokyo's Nikkei average closed at an 11-week high on Friday after a jump in the dollar against the yen triggered buying in the shares of exporters and technology companies. Auto shares also raced higher with Toyota Motor Co <7203.T> up 2.49 percent at 3,710 yen, slightly off its day's high of 3,730, after the dollar jumped to a high of around 108.30 yen from a low of around 106.18. The Nikkei average <.N225> ended up 1.18 percent at 10,965.05, the highest since October 21. The Nikkei briefly rose above 11,000, seen as a key resistance level, nearing last year's closing high of 11,161.71. The broader TOPIX index rose 0.84 percent to 1,065.78.//
