10 December 2003, 15:39  UK's Brown forecast strong growth pick-up

LONDON, Dec 10 - Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown on Wednesday stuck with economic forecasts he made last April, saying the UK economy would grow by 2.1 percent this year. Delivering his pre-budget report to parliament, Brown forecast that the economy would show growth of 2.1 percent this year and grow between 3.0 and 3.5 percent in both 2004 and 2005. In his main budget in April, Brown had forecast growth of 2.0-2.5 percent this year and 3.0-3.5 percent for the next two years, forecasts that were widely dismissed at the time as over-optimistic but now look possible.//
