6 November 2001, 10:22 Shiokawa - Govt should offer inheritance tax breaks for securities
TOKYO (AFX-ASIA) - Finance Minister Masajuro Shiokawa said he
believes the government should offer special concessions on inheritance
tax to individuals who inherit securities such as equities and
government bonds.
"I think the current taxable value of inherited securities such as
stocks and government bonds is too high" relative to real estate,
Shiokawa told a parliamentary Lower House economic and fiscal policy
committee.
"We should view securities such as stocks and government bonds as
assets to be inherited so I think it will be one option that the
government offer substantial special treatment for those who receive
these assets," he said.
