20 November 2001, 11:15 The dollar ended the Monday session slightly softer
against the euro and the yen but scored big gains against the British pound. The
euro ended the session around $0.8800, a bare fifth of a cent above its
opening levels and about the middle of a tight range against the dollar.
During the session, the euro slipped vs the dollar to trade at lows
around $0.8770 ahead of the European close, only to rebound smartly by
midday on light short-covering, posting session highs near $0.8815.
Traders say offers remain in place around $0.8820/25 and again at
$0.8850 to slow any sustained rally in the pair. Traders say the lack of
action in the pair today reflects caution on the part of traders who
remain wary of pressing the European currency lower amid unsubstantiated
talk that one or more European central banks may be trying to support
the euro.
