2 November 2001, 10:04 Shiokawa - Govt may decide yr to March 2002/2003 GDP forecasts mid-December
TOKYO (AFX-ASIA) - Finance Minister Masajuro Shiokawa said the
government may work out the economic growth forecasts for the years to
March 2002 and 2003 around mid-December.
"The government will decide the economic forecasts as well as the
mid-term spending and revenue outlook at around mid-December, or
possibly late December," Shiokawa told a regular briefing.
"Anyway, we will decide before next fiscal year's budget plan is
endorsed by the Cabinet."
Shiokawa said the government will outline "mid-term policy measures
by piecing together the fiscal conditions and the timetable for
deregulation and administrative reforms," including government-linked
corporations.
"We plan to determine what further action should be taken after
gauging the outlook for the economy and the government's fiscal
condition next fiscal year and beyond," he said.
"We will aim to create a smaller government under the mid-term
fiscal outlook," he added.
