2 November 2001, 10:02 Shiokawa proposes compiling economic, fiscal outlook
TOKYO, Nov. 2 (Kyodo) - Finance Minister Masajuro Shiokawa on
Friday proposed the cabinet of Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi
compile by the end of December an assessment of the nation's
medium- and long-term fiscal and economic outlook to allow it to
better manage its policies.
A timetable for deregulation and a clear direction for
administrative reform should also be mapped out along with the
outlook report by the time the government compiles the fiscal 2002
budget, Shiokawa said.
These reports will "clarify the government's attitudes" on
economic and fiscal policy, Shiokawa told a regular press
conference.
He said these issues will be discussed by the Council on
Economic and Fiscal Policy, which Koizumi chairs.
Meanwhile, Shiokawa reiterated the fiscal 2002 budget will be
compiled by keeping the Koizumi cabinet's pledge of limiting the
new issuance of government bonds to 30 trillion yen.
He reiterated, however, that the government will be flexible in
promoting economic policy in case of an emergency.
