12 October 2001, 11:46 U.S. shares were sharply higher in late trade Thursday
as investors continued to put back money taken off the table following the
Sept. 11 attack. The Dow Industrials ened up 169.59 at 9,410.45 while
the Nasdaq Composite finished up 75.21 at 1,701.47. The S&P 500 rose
15.63, to 1,096.62. Volumes were heavier than Wednesday, indicating
greater conviction among investors. The Dow ended Sept. 10 at 9650 and
the Nasdaq at 1695. The Nikkei, which rose 4 percent overnight, has
regained all its post-attack losses. //MarketNews
