17 September 2001, 16:33 BoE says no change to next MPC meeting date despite US FOMC rate cut
LONDON (AFX) - A Bank of England spokeswoman said there is no
change to the date of the next rate-setting meeting of the monetary
policy committee.
Speaking after the US Federal Reserve's open market committee cut
rates by 50 basis points, the spokeswoman said the BoE would never
comment on another central bank's policy.
"The next MPC meeting will be on Oct 3 and 4 as far as we know at
the moment," she said.
BoE governor Eddie George has said a concerted round of rate cuts
is unlikely but that the MPC would be ready to act if there was any
economic fallout from last week's devastating attacks against the US.
