--UK Aug retail sales volume up 0.5% on month; up 6.3% on yr

--UK Aug mainly foodstore sales up 0.3% on mo, up 4.2% on year

London, Aug 15 (BridgeNews) - UK retail sales rose by 0.5% in August
from July and were up 6.3% on the year. The rise was stronger than markets
had expected, and underlines the strength of consumer demand in the UK.
Sales rose 6.3% from a year ago. Growth was driven by the non-foodstore
sector, where sales rose 1.1% from July and were up 8.5% on the year.
