13 September 2001, 09:30 Fukuda - Japan will not change 30 trln yen bond limit despite US attacks
TOKYO (AFX-ASIA) - Cabinet Secretary Yasuo Fukuda said the
government will not change its 30 trln yen limit on new bond issuance
even after the terrorist attack on the US.
"We are not considering changing the 30 trln yen bond-limit policy
because we view this as a means to reform the economy and fiscal
structure," Fukuda told a regular press briefing.
"We believe maintaining the limit and the structural reforms will
contribute to the world economy," Fukuda said.
"The Japanese stockmarket seems to be recovering stability. I think
it is too early to predict whether the decline in the market will
continue in the future," he said.
Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi is keeping in close contact with
world leaders, Fukuda said, adding that "G7 member countries are ready
to cooperate to protect the world's free economies."
