25 June 2001, 09:24 Takenaka: Govt to compile extra budget if economy faces crisis
TOKYO (AFX-ASIA) - State Minister for Economic and Fiscal Policy
Heizo Takenaka said the government will compile a supplementary budget
for the year to March 2002 if the country ends up in an economic
crisis.
"As long as the economy worsens at a moderate rate, we should not
issue new debt-covering government bonds immediately," Takenaka told a
domestic television programme Sunday.
"However, Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi would compile a
supplementary budget if the economy plunges into a crisis," he said,
asked whether the government should follow the suggestion of Nomura
Research and spend an extra 5-10 trln yen.
