18 June 2001, 11:16  Fed Survey Sees Worsened Economic Expectatoins

Forecasters expect the U.S. economy to perform "significantly worse in 2001 than they thought just six months ago," the Philadelphia Federal Reserve Bank's semiannual Livingston survey said Friday. The consensus of the 27 forecasters in the semiannual survey is that real growth will slow to +1.9% in 2001, then strengthen in 2002 to +3.2%. These figures are lower than the +3.1% and +3.4%, respectively, reported in the prior survey. Growth in the first half of 2001 is expected to be weakest, with the economy strengthening later in the year, the survey said.
