TOKYO (AFX) - Sales of new vehicles in May rose 1.4 pct year-on-year to 288,990 units after rising 1.7 pct in April, the Japan Automobile Dealers Association said.
It provided the following May sales data, with year-on-year percentage changes. Vehicle sales include cars, trucks and buses:
Vehicles - 288,990 units, up 1.4 pct
Cars - 212,365 units, up 4.5 pct
Imported vehicles - 20,055 units, up 3.8 pct

The association also provided the following May domestic sales data by maker, with year-on-year percentage changes:
Toyota - 126,905 units, up 0.2 pct
Nissan - 51,243 units, up 6.7 pct
Honda - 36,822 units, up 21.8 pct
Mitsubishi Motor - 13,068 units, down 36.7 pct
Mazda - 20,028 units, down 1.9 pct
