7 May 2001, 13:54 ECOFIN Reynders says eurogroup still 'realistically optimistic' on economy
BRUSSELS (AFX) - Eurogroup president Didier Reynders, who is also
the Belgian finance minister, said the group retains its "realistically
optimistic" assessment of the prospects for growth and the economy.
After the monthly eurogroup meeting, Reynders said there had been
no change in its view of the situation since its previous meeting in
April and since it reported that assessment to the G7 and IMF meetings
in Washington.
However, Reynders added the emphasis in the assessment is on the
"realistic" side.
Following concerns expressed by the European Parliament's monetary
affairs committee this morning, he said the eurogroup has no evidence
of upwards price pressure being caused by anticipating the advent of
euro cash.
