7 May 2001, 09:31 US stocks end higher on rate cut hopes
New York, May 4 (BridgeNews) - The Dow Jones industrial average closed
at its highest level since Feb. 6 and the Nasdaq rose 2% despite data
showing a rise in unemployment and the sharpest drop in payrolls since the
recession of 1990-91. The Nasdaq closed up 45.38, or 2.11%, to 2191.58.
The Dow was up 154.59, or 1.43%, to 10,951.24 and the S&P 500 was up
18.02, or 1.44%, to 1266.60.
