3 May 2001, 14:37 UK April shop prices up 0.1 pct from March; up 0.4 yr-on-yr - BRC
LONDON (AFX) - UK high street shop prices rose 0.1 pct on the month
in April, leaving them 0.4 pct up on last April's level, the British
Retail Consortium said in its monthly shop price index survey.
Notable monthly increases in April were in the price of food,
particularly, beef, eggs and vegetables. Non-food items declined
however due to seasonal promotions at Easter.
According to Bill Moyes, BRC director general: "We have seen two
months of price inflation, but prices are still lower than two and even
three years ago. There is still some way to go before we are back to
those levels."
