14 May 2001, 11:29 Odds of 0.5-percentage-point Fed rate cut on May 15 seen at 73%
New York, May 11 (BridgeNews) - Relatively subdued U.S. wholesale
inflation combined with the sharply weaker April employment report are
sufficient to prompt another 0.5-percentage-point cut in interest rates by
the Federal Reserve at its Tuesday meeting, according to a survey of
economists. However, the 20 economists polled by BridgeNews put the odds
of a 50-basis-point cut at the May 15 meeting at 73% compared to 83% in
the May 4 poll.
